The Land of Goshen Community Market |
|
2010 SEASON May 8 through October 16
Next time you're looking for an escape out of the city on a Saturday morning, consider taking the scenic drive to Edwardsville, Illinois, and visiting The Land of Goshen Community Market. If you're looking for crisp lettuce and the juiciest, best tasting produce, the market offers a wide variety of healthy products (including organic and low pesticides produce) straight from the grower to its customers. Over 60 vendors line the street and fill the parking lot just south of the courthouse in downtown Edwardsville with products from various local farmers, bakers, and artists. The selection changes weekly so plan to visit often to fully appreciate the wide selection available. Bakers offer freshly baked pastries and snacks made from scratch and free from the unhealthy preservatives that saturate store-bought goods. Local artists sell their original work and often times will take custom orders. Watercolor portraits and prints, handcrafted jewelry, hand-woven baskets, and fresh flowers can be found scattered throughout the open-air market. Live musicians play from the steps of the courthouse, adding to the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. After you have found just what you're looking for at the market, Edwardsville's Main Street area offers other attractions, including exotic jewelry and gifts, unique clothing shops, art, fiber, and bead supplies, antique stores, coffee shops, quaint diners, restaurants, and fine dining. The market runs every Saturday, regardless of weather, from May 8th to October 16th and is open 8:00 a.m. until noon. There is plenty of parking available downtown, and the friendly vendors will help ease away the stress of the week. Bring the kids, a dog or two, enjoy the fresh products, the live music, and the free demonstrations provided and relax in the comfort of a simpler time tucked away in historical downtown Edwardsville.
If you are interested in participating in the Market: Please first review our Vendor Forms. The 2010 versions are now posted. Please do not submit or mail any paperwork until instructed to do so by the Market Master; call 618-307-6045 first. From the Garden: We'd love for you to grow all of what you sell, but you must grow at least half of it. Anything you don't grow yourself must be locally grown within a 100 mile radius of Edwardsville. This category is for all agricultural products, whether greenhouse, garden, or farm. If you grow blueberries and make some of them into blueberry muffins, then you should also fill out the "From the Kitchen" form. From the Studio: Artists, you must have a representative sample of your work reviewed by the Jury Committee before you can attend. The Committee will be looking for originality of the concept, uniqueness of each piece, and quality of workmanship. No work can be juried on Saturday morning; you must attend a jury session. From the Kitchen: This category is for non-agricultural bakers and confectioners who are purchasing all the ingredients for their products. All potential products will be juried by the Goshen Market Committee. The jury sessions are generally scheduled for the first Monday of the month; however, we will next meet on July 12th because of the Independence Day holiday weekend. (There is no jury session on July 5th.) Meetings are held at 309 N. Main (Henderson Associates) at 6:30 PM. Call the Market Master at 618-307-6045 to be put on the list. For Non-Profit groups, we offer Community Tables at no charge. Despite the name, no table is provided. We will, however, let you sell items to raise funds, or just hand out information to raise awareness. Reservations are required. Please review the General Rules found under Vendor Forms, and submit the signed Community Table Application to the Market Master. All forms may be submitted to the Market Master on Saturday morning at the Market. Or call the Market Master to discuss mailing or other options.
